Dental Crown and Dental Bridge

What is a dental crown and dental bridge?

A Dental Crown is a cap that surrounds the tooth. We typically use a crown to restore a damaged tooth, but they can also use it to improve the appearance of a smile. A crown can consist of three different materials, all-metal, ceramic-on-metal, and all-ceramic. The location of the crown in the teeth will determine the best material to use. For example, front teeth need to have an all-ceramic crown, if possible, since it looks the most natural. Patients may often use ceramic-on-metal crowns since they look natural but have the durability that only metal can provide.

A Dental Bridge is a way to replace a missing tooth. At Dr. Harshal’s Implant & Pyorrhoea Centre, we provide clients with dental bridges if they want to replace a tooth without wearing dentures or undergoing surgery. The new tooth is held in place by two crowns. It looks natural and consists of a ceramic or porcelain material to match the surrounding teeth.

What material is used for a dental crown and bridge?

Strength is another important feature of a crown or bridge. Often, the material chosen will combine both strength and aesthetics. The most common materials used for crowns and bridges are porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, gold, and acrylic.

What is the procedure to get a dental crown and/or dental bridge done?

  • FIRST STEP: DIAGNOSTICS AND PREPARATION OF THE TREATMENT PLAN.
The first appointment covers a consultation, including:
    • Dental examination.
    • A digital image of the teeth.
    • Smile analysis.
A patient’s smile is analyzed which is a starting point for preparing a treatment plan and a cost estimate including a precise list of teeth requiring crowns.
  • SECOND STEP: TOOTH OR TEETH DRILLING, MAKING A DENTAL IMPRESSION, COLOUR MATCHING, PREPARING A TEMPORARY CROWN.
The second appointment is key because it is during this visit the dentist will drill one or more teeth for crown fitting. During tooth preparation, it may be found that root canal treatment is required to avoid any complications later. Afterward, a dental impression is made.
An accurate tooth impression is crucial for successful prosthetic treatment as it ensures a restored tooth does not look different from the other teeth.
To prepare the impressions, Dr. Harshal’s Implant & Pyorrhoea Centre uses top quality materials. These are the only materials available in the market offering the best, unrivalled detailed impression accuracy. A prosthetic laboratory processes the impressions and produces perfectly fitted prosthetic crowns with maximum tight-fitting edges.DENTAL CROWN AND DENTAL BRIDGE
  • THIRD STEP: FITTING AND CEMENTING THE CROWN OR A PROSTHETIC BRIDGE.
During the last appointment, the dentist fits and cements the crown or the bridge. In complicated and aesthetically demanding cases, the fitting is performed during a separate appointment, but most often a crown or a bridge is sufficiently prepared and ready for immediate cementing.DENTAL CROWN AND DENTAL BRIDGE
